This was the eleventh session to be facilitated by a State-appointed mediator. Recaps are published online on the <a href=\"https:\/\/v1cypwr8vx2.c.updraftclone.com\/labor\/unions\/uw-housestaff-association\/negotiation-updates\">UW Labor Relations website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Union Counter Proposals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Vacation Leave <\/strong>\u2013 The Union maintained and re-emphasized its current proposal for residents to have a fourth week of vacation, beginning July 1, 2020. The Employer has proposed a phase in approach for ease of implementation with residents getting three added weekdays of vacation on July 1, 2020 and ramping up to a full fourth week of vacation beginning July 1, 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Relocation Stipend<\/strong> \u2013 The Union maintained its proposal that all residents would be given a relocation stipend during their first month of training, reducing their proposal to $250.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transportation<\/strong> \u2013 The Union maintained its proposal that includes both a fully subsidized UPASS and maintenance of, and in some cases an expansion of, existing bicycle benefits. The Employer has maintained that the UPASS and bicycle benefits are an either\/or proposal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Employer Counter Proposals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fitness<\/strong> \u2013 In response to the Union, the Employer proposed language stating that residents would have access to exercise equipment at training sites not operated by the Employer in accordance with the policies at those training sites.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Moonlighting<\/strong> \u2013 In response to the Union, the Employer proposed to include language stating that residents should refer to the GME Policy on Working Outside of the Training Program for licensure requirements. If otherwise meeting the requirements for moonlighting, programs would grant conditional approval for moonlighting prior to the resident having obtained all required licensure for moonlighting, including the appropriate medical or dental license and a paid DEA license, if applicable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next Steps <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The next UW and UWHA bargaining session is scheduled for May 28.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background This recap details the thirty-first session and fifth virtual session for the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement between the UW and UWHA.
