UW & SEIU 925 Advisers Negotiation Recap for April 30, 2026
Background
This recap details the fourth session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Washington and SEIU 925-Advisers. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.
UW – Initial Proposals
Article – Military Leave
The Employer proposed an article that is identical to the same titled article in the SEIU 925 – Continuum College contract.
SEIU 925 Advisers – Initial Proposals
Article – Employee Union Rights
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract. The Union proposed that “off the job” lifestyles and activities shall not be grounds for denial of promotions or denial of professional development activities except where such activities constitute a conflict of interest.
Article – Telework
The Union proposed an article whereby employees would be permitted to telework a minimum of three (3) days a week, if they choose. The Union proposed that this policy be made explicit in writing in job descriptions and job offer letters for all new hires. Employees wishing to telework four (4) or five (5) days a week would submit a written request to their supervisor and denials of telework requests would not be arbitrary or capricious.
The Union proposed that occasional non-regular telework can be requested by the employee and approved by the supervisor as needed in addition to the regular telework to meet scheduling, employee and operational needs. The Union also proposed that the Employer would provide all employees, whether fully remote or hybrid, a standard issue laptop and equivalent office equipment for their home office use. Finally, the union proposed that the Employer would provide a calling service for employees to meet their work duties. If an employee requires the use of a phone outside their regular duty station, then a digital phone service, UW-owned mobile device, or a mobile device service allowance (MSA) to cover costs associated with the service contract, monthly service charges or other related charges would be provided.
Article – Transportation, Travel, Events, and Commute Reduction
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract including current UW policy on Emergency Rides Home. The union also proposed that unpaid travel shall not be required and that employees would be reimbursement when tasked with transportation outside of their regular commute, including on and off campus parking and mileage and when required to travel as part of their assigned duties. When employees are assigned to work events where food is provided to any attendees, the Union proposed the same food be made available to employees.
SEIU 925 Advisers – Counter Proposals

Article – Unpaid Holidays for Reasons of Faith and Good Conscience
In response to the Employer, the Union proposed minor language updates for inclusion purposes.
