UW & SEIU 925 Advisers Negotiations Recap for April 9, 2026
Background
This recap details the second session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Washington and SEIU 925-Advisers. Recaps are published online on the UW Labor Relations website.
SEIU 925 Advisers – Initial Proposals
Article – Contract Distribution
The Union proposed an article that is identical to the same titled article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract.
Article – Corrective Action
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract including a proposal that the Employer provide a decision-making day after final counseling that would be subject to operational needs.
Article – Employee Assistance Program
The Union proposed an article that is identical to the same titled article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract.
Article – Exit Interviews
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract. The Union proposed that in addition to the current practice of offering exit interviews to resigning or retiring employees, the Employer would also offer exit interviews to employees changing positions or being laid off.
Article – Grievance Procedure
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract including housekeeping edits and new language requiring that the written grievance include a description of the specific events that occurred that resulted in the alleged violation. The Union proposed that meetings at all steps of the grievance process will occur with remotely or in person, upon mutual agreement of both the Union and the Employer. With respect to step four (arbitration), the Union proposed that the scheduling process must begin within 30 calendar days of the Union advancing the grievance to arbitration.
Article – Inclement Weather and Suspended Operations
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract. The Union also proposed make up time for inclement weather. The Union also proposed that while employees are expected to make reasonable efforts to contact their supervisor to inform them of the circumstances, in cases where this is impossible due to conditions, the employee would not face corrective action. During suspended operations, the Union proposed that the Employer would allow employees who perform nonessential services to telework and may make adjustments to the employees job duties and/or deadlines as appropriate.
Article – New Employees
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract. The Union proposed that UW Bothell and UW Tacoma would hold orientations that complement the Seattle campus Welcome Day orientation, and that employees working at UW Bothell and UW Tacoma would be required to attend. The union also proposed that the Employer would release a member presenter to attend in-person orientations at all three campuses, and that the Union orientation would be included on the agenda as part of all employer orientations. For Union orientations not attached to Welcome Day, the Union proposed a meeting of up to 60 minutes.
Article – Privacy of Employee Records
The Union proposed an article that matches much of the same language from the similar article in the SEIU 925 – IHME contract. The Union proposed that the Employer would make reasonable attempts to notify affected current employees when a public disclosure request is received for information from their personnel file, and that the Employer would copy the Union on the notification to the employee. This notification would not apply to any public disclosure request from the employee, a request from the Union, or one that includes a signed release by the employee, or a request otherwise made available to the public.
