UAW Research – UW Negotiations Recap for February 24, 2026
This recap details the first session for the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the University of Washington and UAW Research.
Tentative Agreements
The parties tentatively agreed to maintain current contract language on the following articles:
- Preamble
- Article 5: Contracting
- Article 7: Employee Assistance Program
- Article 26: Privacy
- Article 31: Reversion Rights
- Article 33: Subordination of Agreement and Savings Clause
- Article 38: Tuition Exemption Program
Union Initial Proposals
Article 32: Salary Overpayment Recovery
The Union proposed to remove the requirement that employees must have under 240 hours of vacation time to use vacation time to pay back an overpayment.
Article 34: Telework and Work Location
The Union proposed to require the Employer provide a written response to employees whose telework requests were denied within fourteen (14) calendar days, and that telework request denials would be greivable. The Union also proposed that terminating a telework agreement must be accompanied by with documented cause and the Employer would be required to provide thirty (30) calendar days’ notice to the impacted employee that identifies the reason(s) for termination.
The Union also proposed maintaining current contract language on the following articles:

- Article 14: Holidays
- Article 17: Joint Union Management Committee
- Article 19: New Employee Orientation
- Article 24: Personnel Files
- Article 36: Transportation and Commute Reduction
- Article 39: Union Rights
- Article 41: VCAP
- MOU: Empowering Prevention and Inclusive Communities (EPIC) Training
- MOU: Union Rosters Applied Physics Laboratory (APL)

The next UAW Research and UW bargaining session is scheduled for March 10, 2026, and will be held in-person at the UDSB Gateway building.
