compound dialysis solutions and concentrates; repair patient catheters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, prepare, assemble and preset dialysis equipment, materials and pheresis apparatus at the patient&#8217;s bedside to perform various pheresis procedures\/treatments; compound, manufacture, label and dispense dialysis solutions and concentrates for use in treatments; repair catheters for patients undergoing dialysis, apheresis, intravenous feeding, or chemotherapy treatments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assemble, prepare, prime and preset dialysis equipment and materials at patient bedside;<\/p>\n<p>Manufacture and dispense dialysis solution which includes calculating, measuring pre-weight of dry chemicals, mixing in distilled water and verifying through chemical analysis for accuracy;<\/p>\n<p>Make changes in dialysis solution composition by compounding any additions such as 50% dextrose, potassium, calcium and heparin; adjust dialysis solutions pH or concentrates;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain dialysis equipment in a functional state through prescribed preventative maintenance; calibrate monitoring systems, replace worn materials, and use appropriate methods of disinfection;<\/p>\n<p>Perform bedside apheresis including plasmapheresis, leukapheresis, platelet pheresis, erythrocytes\/reduction and immunoadsorption treatment; adjust apparatus parameters based on<\/p>\n<p>patient data and conditions for extra-corporeal blood flows, control speeds for blood products collection and safe return of whole blood to the patient; administer coagulant or other additives;<\/p>\n<p>Observe patient tolerance and report changes to physician in charge; make equipment adjustments to avoid adverse patient affect;<\/p>\n<p>Repair external portion of various types of catheters (blood accesses) for patients undergoing dialysis, apheresis, intravenous feeding, or chemotherapy; make adjustments to sizes of catheters not commercially available;<\/p>\n<p>Assemble special surgical trays utilizing aseptic techniques including catheters used for various vascular accesses or peritoneal catheters;<\/p>\n<p>Design, fabricate, operate and maintain specialized apparatus for research purposes;<\/p>\n<p>Transport dialysis solutions and materials to, and conduct treatments at, other institutions;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in training Dialysis\/Pheresis Technician Trainees and other medical staff;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain inventory of supplies;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in Quality Assurance Program for the service unit;<\/p>\n<p>May participate as a guest speaker on dialysis technology;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An Associate&#8217;s Degree with emphasis in chemistry, biology, or medical sciences AND two years experience in a medical laboratory to include one year in a dialysis\/pheresis laboratory at the level of Dialysis\/Pheresis Technician Trainee.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>01\/03\/1973: New Class<br \/>\n07\/22\/1983: Revise Class<br \/>\n12\/08\/1989: Revise Title and Class<br \/>\n07\/02\/1990: Revise MQ<br \/>\n08\/07\/1992: Revise Class<br \/>\n05\/01\/2000: New Class<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18351 (NE S SEIU 925 HCP\/LT) 22574 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HCP\/LT) BASIC FUNCTION Prepare, assemble, operate and monitor equipment used for dialysis\/pheresis treatments;
