{"id":5100,"date":"2024-03-24T18:15:31","date_gmt":"2024-03-25T01:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5100"},"modified":"2025-05-22T11:57:47","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T18:57:47","slug":"mason-plasterer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/v1cypwr8vx2.c.updraftclone.com\/comp\/classified-staff\/mason-plasterer\/","title":{"rendered":"Mason\/Plasterer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18848 (NE S WFSE Trades)<br \/>\n22840 (NE H NI WFSE Trades)<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEFINITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform journey-level masonry and plastering work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Positions allocated to this class are distinguished by the requirement for performing journey-level work in bricklaying, plastering and cement finishing, and to alter, repair and maintain buildings, facilities, equipment and grounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mix and apply base coat plaster over lathe or any other type surface to which plaster will adhere; mix and apply finish coat over such surfaces;<\/p>\n<p>Lay bricks and blocks;<\/p>\n<p>Operate sand blast machine to clean walls and other surfaces;<\/p>\n<p>Mix and apply glues, cements and grouts;<\/p>\n<p>Drive motor vehicle;<\/p>\n<p>Prepare cement floors, sidewalks, stairs and curbings; operate power hammers and power trowels;<\/p>\n<p>Operate core drills, jackhammers, diamond saws, to remove concrete and other surfaces for repair and installation of conduit, air lines, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Apply non-skid surfaces, safety strips, etc.;<\/p>\n<p>Estimate time and material for jobs;<\/p>\n<p>Pour concrete floors, walls and foundations; lay bricks and blocks as required;<\/p>\n<p>May prepare masonary floors for floor coverings; repair ceramic tile and grout;<\/p>\n<p>May perform work in other trades;<\/p>\n<p>May lead or instruct helpers as required;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a mason\/plasterer, or full journey status as a mason\/plasterer in a union; or, four years&#8217; applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
