{"id":5008,"date":"2024-03-20T13:14:33","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T20:14:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5008"},"modified":"2025-05-22T13:48:42","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T20:48:42","slug":"mental-health-practitioner-clinical-specialist","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/v1cypwr8vx2.c.updraftclone.com\/comp\/classified-staff\/mental-health-practitioner-clinical-specialist\/","title":{"rendered":"Mental Health Practitioner Clinical Specialist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18726 (E S WFSE HMC)<br \/>\n21774 (NE H NI WFSE HMC)<br \/>\n23083 (NE H NI WFSE HMC)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide mental health diagnostic evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and case management services in a multi-disciplinary outpatient setting, and consultation and education to other mental health and health care professionals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide treatment, participate in data collection and research, and perform case management functions for a clinical specialty area such as geriatrics, substance use disorder, psychotherapy, suicidality, and unique treatment modalities as required by the program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision, provide specialized, mental health treatment services in a clinical specialty area through specialized certifications and interventions supported by the department.<\/p>\n<p>Provide subject matter expertise in a clinical specialty area through teaching and consultation to outside agencies, students, Mental Health Practitioners and other staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide specialized mental health treatment services in a clinical specialty area;<\/p>\n<p>Provide mentorship, training and consultation to Mental Health Practitioners, students and other staff in clinical specialty area;<\/p>\n<p>In the specialty area, assist in the development and the delivery of training programs;<\/p>\n<p>May represent the specialty area in community forums and professional committee work;<\/p>\n<p>Perform Mental Health Practitioner duties;<\/p>\n<p>May provide direction to volunteers or students; and<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LEGAL REQUIREMENT(S)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Licensed by the State of Washington as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Counselor, or Mental Health Counselor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Master&#8217;s Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>Two years as a Mental Health Practitioner or equivalent, one of which must be in a clinical specialty area. Eligibility for recognition by the State of Washington as a clinical specialist, under the community mental health regulations may be required. May be required to be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment and\/or allied health credentialing.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>11\/01\/2019: New to WFSE: Class adopted for UW contract classified staff per PERC decision Case #131267-E-19 to add this title to WFSE HMC bargaining unit, effective 05\/23\/2019.
