{"id":4444,"date":"2024-01-24T12:12:29","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T20:12:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=4444"},"modified":"2025-05-23T10:44:39","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T17:44:39","slug":"sports-equipment-technician","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/v1cypwr8vx2.c.updraftclone.com\/comp\/classified-staff\/sports-equipment-technician\/","title":{"rendered":"Sports Equipment Technician"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>17169 (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv)<br \/>\n22242 (NE H NI SEIU 925 Non Supv)<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEFINITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision of the equipment manager, or equivalent, maintain, repair, fit, issue, and receive athletic equipment and garments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Positions in this class are distinguished by repair, maintenance, and inventory responsibilities under direction of an Equipment Manager within a large varsity athletic unit or recreational facility for fittings and major\/minor repair and maintenance of athletic equipment and garments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inspect, modify, repair, and maintain athletic equipment and clothing including sewing, riveting, painting, stringing, etc.;<\/p>\n<p>Fit athletes with uniforms and equipment; issue and receive equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain required health, safety, and security practices in locker room and games areas; maintain records of equipment purchases and utilization;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in training of student managers in equipment maintenance and accountability;<\/p>\n<p>May operate spotting tables, washers, extractors, and dryers to launder soiled clothing and equipment; use correct procedures to include proper water and steam temperatures, and correct types and amounts of soaps and bleaches in washing and drying athletic garments as necessary;<\/p>\n<p>Assign and maintain lockers for athletes;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>High School graduation and two years of full-time experience; or vocational school education in equipment repair and maintenance.
